L&B Direct is celebrating Thanksgiving through a moment of gratitude. One person we want to give a huge ‘thank you’ to is Kevin Walsh, one of our amazing Account Managers who pushes our team to achieve more each day. Kevin brings an energy of positivity, drive, and determination into the office with him that is purely contagious.
Born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, Walsh joined our team in September of 2019. Like many business titans, Walsh remembers being a competitive kid. “The most influential experiences in my life were competing in sports,” says Walsh, “That shaped me into the person I am today. I was involved in multiple sports, and also very involved in the church, as well. It taught me to work hard at everything I did and gave me the motivation to be better.” It can be hard to look back at our childhood and pinpoint the experiences and influences that brought us here, but for Kevin Walsh, he knows that one thing is for sure- structure shaped him. “I remember my childhood being very structured: God, Family, School, and Sports. In that order.”
It is not uncommon for our most successful team members to say that they never expected to be in this field, and that rings true for Kevin Walsh as well. As a child, the entrepreneur dreamed of being a police officer and could never have imagined entering the business field. As a student at Eastern Kentucky University, Walsh earned a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. “One experience that shaped me like no other was graduating.” says Walsh, “School never came easy to me, and on graduation day, I proved to myself that if I could do that; I could do anything.”
How did he find his way to L&B Direct? We like to think it was his soul calling him here. “I have always had the ability to relate to many different kinds of people, which is imperative in this line of work,” says Walsh, “I can be pretty shy, but this job pulls me out of my shell in the best way. I found this opportunity through Zip Recruiter, and it’s one of the best things that’s ever happened to me.”
Kevin Walsh fit in immediately with the young atmosphere of the office and family-oriented culture. He even cites his best memories at the team nights we organize regularly. While we know how to have fun with each other, Walsh also found that this team knows how to support each other during dark times. “The week my dog died, I was not in a good place to work,” says Walsh, “but I pushed through and worked anyways to show people I can persevere. My team was so there for me, offering to help me in any way and just showing me the support I needed.”
As for the future, Kevin Walsh is looking up. “I don’t know where I’ll be in five years but knowing that I am going to improve myself every single day, and be satisfied with my own self-improvements, is major motivation for me,” says Walsh, “Success is the ability to improve yourself every single day and be satisfied with the accomplishments that you make for yourself. Nobody should be able to define somebody else’s success. Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard.”
While Walsh has brought plenty of improvements into the office with him, he cites the L&B Direct office as the catalyst for his own personal growth. “This company has taught me how to approach certain people and situations and to always maintain a positive attitude in all that I do. With a positive attitude, you can accomplish almost anything.”
