In May of this year, the L&B Direct team grew by one. Colton Brown joined our team as an Account Manager, and our office has not been the same since. While on the job hunt, the Kentucky native came across our opportunity via Handshake, an employment website that matches eligible candidates to prosperous opportunities. This month, we sat down with the businessman to discuss the road that brought him here and the value he has found in his career.
How has L&B Direct helped you in your career development?
“This company has taught how to be a leader, as well as progress in sales. I have grown both personally and professionally since I joined this team.”
What do you find to be most challenging in your work?
“The most challenging thing for me right now is not worrying about the uncontrollable things that happen in life. Something we say around here is ‘you can’t fix stupid,’ and that can be comforting to remember. When those tough times do come up, we are there for each other as teammates and friends.”
What have you gained from your work?
“I have mostly gained confidence in myself. Success in work brings me happiness in life and confidence in myself.”
What has been your proudest moment in your life and in the office?
“In my life, my proudest moment was graduating from college. It was a great moment and I am still very proud of that achievement. Whatever happens in life, I will always have my education. In my career, the proudest moment was getting promoted from an entry-level position and growing with the team.”
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
“I would learn how to run my own business. Luckily, I have chosen the perfect career, and the training I have received in this role has set me on a professional path to provide for myself one day.”
At what age did you become an adult?
“If I am being honest, I still don’t see myself as an adult. I guess you could say the date is TBD.”
What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13?
“Pay attention and try harder in everything you do. Also, listen to your mother’s advice; she knows what she’s talking about.”
How do you define success?
“I define success by how people come to you for advice. I will feel successful when someone sees me as a mentor.”
What is your favorite thing about working in the sales industry?
“My favorite thing is the teamwork. I feel so lucky to have my coworkers as both teammates and friends. That is probably the greatest thing this company has given me — a community.”
Who inspires you?
“I am very inspired by my dad because of his work ethic. He always taught me to try my very best and create a record of success that speaks for itself.”
What are you passionate about?
“I am very passionate about craft beer. I would love to open my own brewery or taproom one day.”
What business advice would you give to people hoping to start a career?
“Don’t settle, always strive for better, and find something that fulfills you.”
What are you currently watching on Netflix?
“Lately I have been more of a Hulu guy, and I’ve been watching Workaholics and Bobs Burgers.”
Colton Brown brings his absolute A-game into the office each and every day, pushing his entire team towards success. What keeps him going? In his words, “a dream of mine is to retire my parents, and that motivates me to wake up and go to work every day.” In Colton Brown’s case, there is no secret to success. The success comes from rigid determination and unrelenting hard work. The entire team here at L&B Direct knows that he will go very far in this industry.
